2. ABOUT THESE TERMS
These terms apply when you:
- use a Double-6 English website;
- request a free resource;
- request free marking;
- submit work for feedback;
- purchase a product or service; or
- otherwise use a Double-6 English service.
Additional terms shown on a sales page, order form or checkout may apply to a particular paid product or service.
Nothing in these terms removes any statutory rights that you have as a consumer.
3. THE FREE MARKING OFFER
Double-6 English currently offers free marking of one eligible GCSE English answer per family.
The offer includes access to a GCSE English practice pack to help the pupil choose an appropriate question.
To use the free marking service:
- choose an appropriate AQA GCSE English Language or Literature question;
- ask the pupil to complete the answer themselves;
- where possible, use approximately the time that would be available in the examination;
- tell us approximately how long the answer took;
- send clear photographs of handwritten work or attach the typed answer; and
- avoid including unnecessary personal information.
If a pupil is permitted to use a word processor as their normal examination arrangement, the answer may be completed electronically.
4. ELIGIBLE SUBMISSIONS
The free marking service is intended for one completed AQA GCSE English Language or Literature examination-style answer.
Double-6 English may decline a free submission where:
- the material is unreadable;
- it is not reasonably related to GCSE English;
- the submission is incomplete to the extent that meaningful feedback cannot be provided;
- the same family has already used the free marking offer;
- excessive or unrelated material is submitted; or
- the service is being misused.
If there is a problem with a submission, we will normally contact you where reasonably possible.
5. MARKING AND FEEDBACK
Feedback may include:
- a score or indicative mark;
- an overall assessment;
- strengths;
- areas for development;
- annotations on the submitted answer; and
- an improved version or example of how aspects of the answer could be strengthened.
The purpose of the feedback is educational.
Any mark or assessment represents a professional judgement based on the work submitted.
Exam marking involves professional judgement. A mark supplied by Double-6 English is therefore not a guarantee that a school, another teacher, another examiner or AQA would award exactly the same mark.
One piece of work also cannot guarantee or definitively predict the pupil's eventual GCSE grade.
6. TURNAROUND
For the free marking service, we currently aim to return feedback in around three days.
This is an approximate target rather than a guaranteed deadline.
Turnaround may be longer during periods of high demand, illness, holidays, examination marking periods or circumstances outside our reasonable control.
If there is a significant delay, we will make reasonable efforts to communicate this.
7. WHO PROVIDES THE MARKING?
The free marking service is provided by Double-6 English.
The service is currently delivered by an experienced secondary English teacher who also works as an AQA GCSE English exam marker.
This experience does not mean that Double-6 English acts on behalf of AQA.
AQA is a registered trademark of AQA Education.
Double-6 English is an independent service and is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by AQA Education.
8. COMMUNICATION INVOLVING PUPILS
The free marking offer is primarily intended to be arranged by a parent or carer.
Parents and carers should normally submit pupil work and receive the returned feedback.
Please do not send unnecessary personal information about a child.
A first name or initials are sufficient for marking purposes.
9. THE PRACTICE PACK AND EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES
Double-6 English resources are supplied for personal educational use by the customer, pupil and their family unless we expressly state otherwise.
Double-6 English's own teaching materials, design, commentary, frameworks, branding and original content must not be:
- resold;
- commercially redistributed;
- uploaded to another paid platform;
- represented as somebody else's original work; or
- reproduced for commercial use without permission.
Some Double-6 English resources contain or reproduce examination material or other material belonging to third parties.
Copyright in third-party material remains with the relevant copyright owner.
The inclusion of third-party material does not transfer ownership of that material to Double-6 English or to the user.
10. EDUCATIONAL OUTCOMES
Double-6 English is designed to help pupils improve their GCSE English knowledge, skills and examination performance.
We do not guarantee:
- a particular GCSE grade;
- a particular examination result;
- a particular increase in marks;
- acceptance of our marking by a school;
- admission to a particular course or institution; or
- that using a particular resource will produce a specific result.
Results depend on many factors, including prior attainment, practice, effort, teaching, attendance and performance on the day of an examination.
11. PAID PRODUCTS AND SERVICES
Double-6 English may offer paid resources, marking, programmes or tuition.
The main features and price of a paid service will be shown before purchase.
Any additional conditions that apply to a particular product, programme, guarantee or offer will be displayed on the relevant sales page or checkout.
Those product-specific conditions form part of the agreement between you and Double-6 English.
12. CANCELLATION AND CONSUMER RIGHTS
If you purchase a service or digital product as a consumer, you may have statutory cancellation rights under UK consumer law.
The precise right depends on what has been purchased and when delivery or performance begins.
Where immediate access to digital content is provided, you may be asked at checkout to expressly request immediate supply and acknowledge the effect this may have on a statutory cancellation right.
Where a service begins during a statutory cancellation period at your express request, the law may permit an amount to be charged for services already supplied.
Any applicable statutory rights will not be restricted by these terms.
13. REFUNDS AND PRODUCT-SPECIFIC GUARANTEES
Any voluntary Double-6 English guarantee, refund arrangement or results-based offer applies only where it is expressly stated as part of the relevant product or programme.
The conditions of that offer will be explained on the relevant sales page, checkout or programme documentation.
A voluntary guarantee is additional to, and does not replace, statutory consumer rights.
14. EMAIL COMMUNICATION
When you request a resource or service, we may send emails necessary to:
- provide the requested resource;
- explain how to use the service;
- receive or return pupil work;
- provide customer support; or
- administer a purchase.
Where you have agreed to receive marketing communications, we may also send educational emails and information about relevant Double-6 English products and services.
Marketing emails can be unsubscribed from at any time.
15. PERSONAL INFORMATION
Personal information is handled in accordance with the Double-6 English Privacy Notice.
Parents and carers should remove unnecessary identifying information from photographs or documents before submitting pupil work.
16. ACCEPTABLE USE
You must not knowingly use a Double-6 English website or service to:
- submit malicious software or harmful files;
- attempt unauthorised access to systems;
- interfere with the operation of the website;
- impersonate another person;
- misuse forms or automated submission systems;
- infringe another person's intellectual-property rights; or
- carry out unlawful activity.
17. AVAILABILITY AND CHANGES
We may change, suspend or withdraw a free resource or promotional offer.
Where an eligible free marking submission has already been received before an offer is withdrawn, we will normally complete it unless circumstances outside our reasonable control prevent us from doing so.
We may update resources, websites, technology and service delivery where reasonably necessary.
18. THIRD-PARTY SERVICES
Double-6 English uses third-party services to provide website hosting, email delivery, payments, file delivery and other functions.
We are not responsible for the independent operation of a third-party service outside our reasonable control.
Links to external websites are provided where useful, but the content and availability of external websites are controlled by their respective operators.
19. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful.
Nothing in these terms affects rights that cannot legally be excluded under consumer law.
To the extent permitted by law, Double-6 English is not responsible for losses caused solely by:
- circumstances outside our reasonable control;
- misuse of a resource or service;
- inaccurate information supplied to us; or
- reliance on educational feedback as a guarantee of a future examination result.
20. CHANGES TO THESE TERMS
We may update these terms where our services, products, technology or legal obligations change.
The latest version will be made available through the Double-6 English website and will show the date on which it was last updated.
21. GOVERNING LAW
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
If you are a consumer living elsewhere in the United Kingdom, you retain any rights you have under applicable consumer law, including rights concerning the courts in which a claim may be brought.
